Some think government’s spending on infrastructure (transport, housing etc.) is considered the most important for a nation, while others believe that education, health and HR values to be more important areas for government expenditure. It is a fact that a country’s annual budget determines its development. While some believe it should be best spent on infrastructure like transport and housing, others feel that it is more important to spend on sectors like education, health and human resources.  I think the first option has more tangible benefits.

The prime reason why people suggest spending more money on services like education and health is because it determines an efficient and healthy workforce of a nation. To be precise, good education moulds qualified teachers, doctors, scientists and engineers, whose services are invaluable for the country. Similarly, it is the responsibility of a government to prevent diseases and to reduce the size of morbid population, as it is directly proportional to the productivity. Human resource values are also vital because a country needs an agile and dedicated workforce to strengthen its economy.

On the other hand, others believe that when more money is spent on infrastructure, it produces the best desired outcome. To be clearer, the construction of quality roads, rails,  houses and other buildings is more important than other sectors like education because it benefits a greater proportion of population. Without a good infrastructure, educational and health facilities such as schools and hospitals would not be as effective as expected. For example, schools in urban setup perform far better than those in the rural setup, with  the same amount of fund allocation. Same happens in case of hospitals.

In my opinion, the primary focus of any government should be on providing competent infrastructure to its citizens, with which they can excel in other sectors more effectively.

To conclude, though it is inevitable for any government to spend a sizeable proportion of its revenue on key services like education, health and HR values, I believe infrastructural developments should be given primary focus.
