Controversy exists regarding the action of the Australian government who turns back the boats with illegal immigrants. When considering the public interests and sovereignty of the country, I believe such actions are acceptable.

On the one hand, those who support such immigration focus on the humanitarian aspects of those who arrive the country. To be precise, only those who are in extreme needs of survival are expected to take the risks of such a long voyage in the turbulent sea. For example, many of such immigrants are from war-torn territories or from poverty-stricken areas of the world. It is humane to accept such people, shelter them and provide them a better standard of living.

On the other hand, those who are against such entry to the country highlight the threat the country would face with an increasing number of illegal immigrants. They believe such an overwhelming population would settle inside the island and strengthen in size, which can eventually make adverse socio-economic conflicts between the native people. The rising disharmony and intolerance of the native Australians towards such migrants can be seen as a pertinent example for this.

In my opinion, every country has its own policies to accept or reject migrants, and no external factor should question it. It can be amendable only based on the public interest of the native population.

To conclude, though at certain circumstances, it is recommended to accept a minority of such immigrants, based on the country’s supreme legislation and public interest, such immigrations should be discouraged.
