Overall, there were obvious differences in the key influencing factors behind opting a career between the age groups.

It is clear from the report that monetary and parental influences persuaded sizeable proportions of both the age groups to take up a job in Sydney. When the former factor influenced nearly 28% of 20-35 age group, the latter factor was reported as the reason why 30% chose a career from 40-50 age group. When 20% of the younger age group decided to work because of parents, the same proportion of the older group worked for money.

Teachers and role models played the next vital roles in deciding the career for these age groups. When 10% of the younger group took a job because of teachers in Sydney, in case of the older, the rate was 5% more. Role model influence for both the younger and older age groups was marked at 15 and 7.5% respectively.
