It is argued that the most feasible solution for traffic and related problems is to persuade people to concentrate their accommodations inside the city rather than living in small towns and village outskirts. I cannot agree to this and I feel this makes the situation worse.

The first reason why I disagree to the argument is because of the technological advancements in the field of transportation like ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems). To be precise, the use of such systems which can assess the current traffic in an area, the delay if a vehicle proceeds the same way and the routes which can be used instead, would solve the urban traffic issues to a great extent. In some modern cities, advanced traffic notifications are made via GPS and drones, which can give time to the driver to plan an alternate way.

The second alternative is the upgradation of the existing road and rail systems in cities. This includes wider roads, express ways, elevated highways, underground roads, metro rails and mono rails. Increasing the frequency of services between the most commuted destinations at peak times also is a better solution. Simultaneously, the use of advanced technology in traffic monitoring, control and punishments for offenses would minimise the intensity of the crisis.

Ignoring all these practical solutions and promoting ultra-urbanisation would fetch the opposite effects. To be precise, cities will be more crowded and congested with an increasing number of people. This not only worsen the existing traffic, but also creates other issues such as unhealthy living conditions, increasing crimes, inflation et cetera.

To conclude, though urban concentration of people appears to be an excellent idea to tackle traffic and transportation issues, it is not, since there are better practical solutions for the same.
