It is argued that the landmark discoveries in the field of medical science in the past couple of centuries are the most vital advances in the global society. Admitting that these have made a remarkable impact among the people, I tend to say there are also significant discoveries from other fields which even changed the course of human life.

 Turning to the impacts which the breakthroughs in medical science have brought to humans, the most tangible is the increase in the life expectancy. Discovery of penicillin, classification of blood groups, transfusion of blood, and transplantation of organs are some of the landmark success stories of the medical science in the last couple of centuries. Advanced diagnostic procedures, vaccines, chemotherapy and radiation therapy are also cardinal in the modern health sector. Since all these are the discoveries of the last two centuries, it is quite rational to support the aforementioned argument.

 At the same time, one cannot neglect the pillars of development, which were laid by the scientists from fields other than medical science. From the invention of electric bulb till the introduction of the internet, which has transformed the lives of the human race, there were a series of landmark discoveries, which have uplifted the human race to a much civilized society. Of these, internet is considered as the biggest invention, and this is because of its significant impact among the lives of almost every individual in the modern society. The fact is that even the existence of modern medical science is now depended on the internet.

 To conclude, there are a handful of significant discoveries in the last two centuries which have made a great impact in the human life. However, it is difficult to say whether the discoveries from medical science have made the greatest impact or not.
