The chart below shows the proportion of businesses making e-commerce purchases by industry in Canada between 2015 and 2019.

The bar chart provides information on the e-commerce purchases of five different business sectors in Canada between 2015 and 2019.

In general, the purchases witnessed a gradual growth over the period, and this growth was exceptional in case of information and communication sector.

As per the chart, the least purchase was in 2015, and this ranged from 22% to 60%. To be specific, when the construction industry purchased just over 22% of e-commerce, information and communication sector purchased the most, at 60%. In 2016, the shares of purchase grew, and ranged between 30% and 70%. Here, too the industries which purchased the highest and the lowest were the same. It is to be noted that the manufacturing industry had a highest purchase rate this year, which accounted for over 50%.

When manufacturing, wholesale and retail sectors are compared, the shares of purchases were similar, between 30 and 60%, but the growth of the purchase rate was steadier in case of the wholesale sector. Retail, information and communication sectors had a slightly higher rate of purchase in 2018 than in 2019, which were nearly 53 and 74% respectively.
