The chart below shows the resources used to make 1000 disposable cups in different materials: polystyrene and paper. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

The way in which various resources are utilised to make 1000 disposable cups of paper and polystyrene is elucidated in the given stacked bar graph.

Overall, it is clear that the making of polystyrene cups needs fewer amounts of resources when compared to paper-cup production.

As per the chart, except wood, the resources used in the production of both types of cups are the same. In order to make 1000 polystyrene cups, the share of water, electricity and petroleum  required is much less when compared to the making the same quantity of paper cups. When 0.6 m³ of water, 6 kilowatts of electricity and 8 kg of petroleum are used in the production of polystyrene cups, for 1000 paper cups, 10 m³ water, 78 kilowatts electricity and 18 kg of petroleum are needed. It is also seen that 220 kg wood is used to produce the same number of paper cups.

However, the proportions of steam and other chemicals needed for 1000 polystyrene cups are higher than that what is required for making 1000 paper cups. When 130 kg steam and 13 kg other chemicals are necessary for the making of the former type of cups, it is just 0.56 kg and 8 kg respectively for making paper cups.
