The crime statistics in England and Wales between October 2018 and September 2021, divided in two time frames is illustrated in the given charts.
Overall, the gross number of crimes recorded was fewer between October 2020 and September 2021 than between October 2018 and September 2019. However, the gap was narrowing towards the end.
As per figure 4, the total number of crimes reported in the first time frame was 600, of which 380 were violence with injury and 110 were robbery. Between October 2020 and September 2021, this fell to 430, 270 and 70 respectively.
While the total reported crimes remained lower in the second time period, the gap between the number of victim-based crimes between 2019 and 2021 was reducing as evidenced by the data collected from January to September in both the years. Figure 5 shows, in July 2021, there were only 150 fewer victim-based crimes compared to July 2019.The gap was nearly 60,000 between March 2019 and March 2021, and was about 85,000 between January 2019 and January 2021. By September 2021, the number of such crimes touched 375,000, which was as same as the number in September 2019.
