A detailed presentation of the life cycle of the silkworm is illustrated in the given diagram.

Overall, there are six diverse stages in the whole cycle .

As per the diagram, in the first stage, mating happens between adult male and female silkworms. After a successful mating, the female moth spawns around 300-500 eggs on the berry leaves. After completing the egg laying period, the eggs hatch in around 10-15 days and silkworm larvae emerge. The ideal hatching condition requires a humidity level of 85-90% and 23-28 °C.

The larvae feed on the burry leaves in the third stage and in 20-33 days. Here the larvae get enclosed in small oval-shaped cocoon which is made of raw silk, that is produced by salivary glands of larvae.

Each larva stays in a single cocoon for about 10-14 days and thus is usually called pupa phase. Each cocoon can produce 300-500 meters long thread. In the final stage, moths break the cocoon and eventually becomes an adult silkworm moth.
