Overall, the process involves three stages, starting from boiling the salt water to the collection of fresh water inside a bucket.

In the first stage, a pot with salty water is placed above a gas stove and the burner is turned on. When the temperature reaches the optimum level, steam rises from the boiling water. This steam is channelled upwards through an inversely placed metal funnel to a pipe with two right angle bends at specific distances. At the distal bend from the pot, the pipe is supported with a string.

In the second stage, the steam is condensed by pouring water on a piece of cloth, which is placed over the pipe, at about equal distance from the two right angle bends. In the final stage, the condensed fresh water is collected in a bucket, which is placed well under these systems.
