The pictures given are layouts of two different road tunnels in Australia which were constructed in two different time frames.

Overall, the two tunnels are dissimilar in their construction, cost and vehicle occupancy.

The first tunnel was constructed between 1986 and 1998, which stretches 2.2 kilometres under a bridge across a river. The tunnel has a height of 1.5 metres and has a sharp downward bend as it passes under the river bed. The overall cost of the tunnel, which is constructed between the river sand was $555 million.

The second tunnel was constructed in a shorter span of time, and this was between the years 2002 and 2006. The 2.5 meter tunnel is made through a strongĀ  layer of stone and clay which stretches 3.6 kilometres. The tunnel passes underneath a busy urban dual carriage way. The total cost of this three lane tunnel was $1.1 billion at the time of completion.
