MODEL ANSWER:
A comparison of population growth in China and India from 2000 till now, and it’s projection until 2050 is depicted in the given graph.

As per the chart, it is evident that the Chinese were well ahead of Indians in case of population in the beginning of 21st century (2000). The population in China was recorded at 1.25 billion in this year, whereas India’s was 0.25 billion less. Then the demographic figures are seen rising. In case of India, the rise was more sharp, and at present(2020), the disparity between the population figures is seen shrunken to 0.1 billion. By 2025, the Chinese population is expected to stabilize, and would remain constant for a decade. However, the population of India would continue to swell and is anticipated to surpass China’s very shortly after 2030, to reach 1.6 billion by 2050. Turning to China, a negative growth is expected after 2035, and it would continue till 2050 to reach 1.4 billion.

Overall, it is clear, though China is seen dominant in case of population over the first half, in the later part of the period, the trend is seen reversed.
