MODEL ANSWER:

Statistics show that the rate of children who are overweight in the Western society has grown by almost 20% in the last decade. The tentative causes of this, expected consequences and two suggestive solutions are discussed in this essay.

One of the prominent causes of this alarming situation is the lack of parental attention in their children’s eatery habits. To be precise, many parents in the Western society hardly have time to cook food at their own homes. Instead they heavily depend on convenience foods, which the children too prefer because of taste. In certain cases, the food is ordered outside from services like ‘food on wheels’.  These foods contain a lot of preservatives and additives which are the key reasons for juvenile obesity. Another reason which seems to be contributing to this is the over-dependence of technology. When children are glued to their seats with their gaming gadgets, they lose the opportunity to exercise.

The worst anticipated outcome of this lifestyle is the creation of a multitude of morbid young population. Both the families and the state become liable to treat this population. Another result is a less-productive population. For example, when a healthy young person can work for eight hours a day, these people would prove under-performers.

It has to be admitted that there is hardly any practical solution for these undesired situations. However, a better parental advice regarding their children’s diet and encouraging children to get engaged in outdoor activities can be productive.

To conclude, it is a fact that there is a newer hike in the number of overweight children in most of the Western societies and with timely and appropriate interventions, the intensity of its disturbing consequences can be mitigated to a great extent.
