You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

The position of women has changed a great deal in many societies over the past 50 years. But these societies cannot claim to have achieved gender equality. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience.  Write at least 250 words.

MODEL ANSWER:

Despite tremendous achievements seen in the life of women, it is argued that in their respective societies, they have not made their status as equal as men. I too think the statement is true.

The first reason why I agree to the statement is because of the unchanged approach of societies towards women. To be clearer, there were specific familial and social responsibilities for women in the past. To a great extent, these are carried out by the same gender, even if they are adjusted to the modern life-style. For example, a woman who works in a managerial position, does cooking, washing and babysitting at her home.

Another reason why I support the statement is because of the lack of opportunities they get. Even though many women have conquered the heights and proved that there should not be gender bias anymore, the existing social system hesitate to offer her more opportunities to explore newer heights. For example, there are many successful and powerful women politicians in the current world, but one can see their proportion is just under a ten when compared to their male counterparts.

There exists an irony that in many fields, women have established their impression. For example, in flying airplanes and travelling to outer space, women can be seen as same as men, and often, superior. However, the success stories are still limited, I feel.

To conclude, though it is clear that the position of women has changed dramatically over the past 50 years, owing to the existing social situations, they could not achieve their goal to equalise their status when compared to men.
