The table below gives information about the percentage of land covered by forest in various countries in 1990 and 2005 with estimated figures for 2015.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Variations in the proportion of forest land covered in four countries between 1990 and 2005, along with its projection in 2030 are depicted in the given table.

Overall, it is clear that when the estimated share of forest land is seen positive in New Zealand and Chile, in the other two countries, it is expected to shrink.

As per the table, Brazil was the only country which had more than half of its total area covered with forest (62.2%) in 1990, whereas in Australia, this was just 21.9%. By 2005, the proportion of forest land in both these countries shrank by 5% and 0.6% respectively. However, in the other two countries: New Zealand and Chile, the share of forest in the total area grew from28.8% to 31 % and 20.4% to 21.5% respectively.

By 2030, the area covered with forest is estimated to shrink further in Brazil and Australia. In Brazil, it would be more visible when the anticipated forest land share would go down to 53.5%, whilst in Australia; the projected decline is by 1.3%. However, in New Zealand and Chile, the forest area is expected to expand by around 2.3% and 0.5%.
