Information on the release and sales of tickets of independent films in the UK and Republic of Ireland in 2012 is depicted in the given table.

Overall, most releases were drama and documentary based, whereas the income generated by the tickets sales came mostly from comedy films.

As per the table, the release of drama and documentary based films were more in number. Both these genres had 35 releases, which was 9 more than comedy, the second next in the table. Horror and thriller accounted for 9.5 and 8.8% of all total releases, which stood at the fourth and fifth place.

However, when the proportion of income from these releases is concerned, comedy films fetched the lion’s share with 45.4 of the total, which was far better than drama and documentary films (8.3 and 2.9%).Horror films stood second in the case of the income from ticket sales at 20.2%, whereas only 1.3% of income came from thriller films’ ticket sales.

Releases were comparatively low in case of the other genres (crime, action, romance, biopic and others) and this ranged between one (biopic film) and eight. However, the income from biopic pictures was higher, when it generated 8.4% of the total ticket sales, whereas the least profitable genre was romantic films.
