The table represents the statistical information of Australian women aged 40 to 44 who had or had not delivered children between 1981 and 2006.

Overall, it is clear that the proportion of women who delivered three or more children was decreasing over the period.

As per the census, most women in Australia had two children between 1981 and 2006. In 1981, the rate of women who delivered two children was 29. This went up by almost 10% to hit 38.3% in 2006. On the other hand, the rate of those who had three or more children in 1981 exhibited a decline till 2006. In case of women who had three children, the decline was almost 6% from 27% in 1981. The percentage of those who had four or more children showed a sharper decline of approximately 16% from 27.6%.

It is also noted that the rate of those who either had one child or no child climbed steadily over the period. In case of the former, the growth was from 7.6 to 13.2, whilst in case of the latter, it was from 8.5 to 15.9.
