Data regarding the percentage of British households who owned various consumer durables between 1972 and 1983 is depicted in the given table.

In general, the rate of ownership is seen increasing among the people in Britain over the period.

As per the table, television was the most preferred consumer durable in 1972, when 93% of the British houses had at least one. This was closely followed by the ownership of vacuum cleaner. When the rate of ownership of TV went up by 4% in 1982, in case of the vacuum cleaner it was by 8% from 87% in 1972. Another popular consumer durable was refrigerator. The proportion of households who had one such gadget went up sharply from 73% in 1972 to 94% in 1983. The ownership of washing machine too observed a hike in the given period, and this ranged from 66 to 80%.

 The most significant growth in the rate of ownership was for telephone, followed by central heating system. In case of the former, the hike was 35% from 42% in 1972, whilst in the case of the latter; it was 27% in 1983 from 37%. When 18% of the households owned video in 1983, in case of dishwasher, it was just 5% since it was first recorded (3% in 1978).
