The two graphs show the main sources of energy in the USA in the 1980s and the 1990s. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The way in which the energy was consumed from five sources in the USA in 1990 when compared to 1980 is depicted in the given pie charts.

Overall, it is clear that when oil and natural gas remained as the major energy sources which the Americans depended in both years, an increased dependency is seen in  case of both coal and nuclear energy.

As seen in the charts, the lion’s share of energy consumption in the USA in both the years was from oil and natural gas. Out of the total energy consumed, over two-fifth (42%) was from oil, while natural gas accounted for just over a quarter (26%). Albeit these remained as the main sources of energy which they depended in 1990, there was a decline in their consumption, which was 9% and 1% respectively.

However, their dependence on coal and natural gas hiked by 5% in 1990. A decade ago, the coal constituted 22% of the total energy Americans used, whilst nuclear energy constituted just 5%. The contribution of hydroelectric power among residents of the USA remained 5% in both years.
