There is too much noise in many public places in cities.

What are the causes of this problem?

What can be done to solve the problem?

It is a known fact that the level of noise in many cities is rising constantly these days. Both the individuals and the governments are responsible for this, and only a combined effort can solve the issue effectively.

When analysing the responsibility of individuals, the only tangible reason is the lack of discipline they show in cities. To be precise, many are seen irrationally making noise at varying intensities or becoming a part of the process passively. For example, people are less patient on the roads, and are seen honking their vehicles indiscriminately even in places such as schools and hospitals. Similarly, it is a general concept that noise can attract people, and hence, most commercial activities and social gatherings in the cities are very noisy. High intensity noises from factories and other industrial establishments worsen the situation.

When critically analysing how governments are responsible for this, the worst blame is the lax legislations to curb the noise levels in cities. To be clearer, many governments are seen adopting methods like exhibiting warning boards and levying fines. Noise levels are the maximum at traffic, industrial areas and construction sites in cities.

It is hard to have an established solution for this issue because the matter cannot be addressed only by the authorities. Firstly, city-dwellers need to understand the consequences of these ear-bursting noises, and need to become more disciplined. They should also co-operate with every initiative from the part of the government to make their cities less noisy. Governments should adopt advanced strategies including modern technology to curb the issue in addition to the existing efforts.

To conclude, it is clear that both the individuals and the authorities are responsible for the noise pollution in cities, and the solutions for the same can be sorted out by the integrated efforts from both.
