MODEL ANSWER>>>

The rate of serious crime across the world is soaring day by day, and some think capital punishment is the best way to deter this. However, others recommend alternatives. Both arguments are vital in nature, and hence a detailed discussion is needed before framing a logical conclusion.

The main reason why some strongly recommend death penalty to heinous crimes is because it closes the opportunity of occurrence of such a crime again from the same person. For example, there are seasoned criminals who can be hardly transformed and re-integrated to the society. Such criminals, even when they are alive in confinement possess threat to the people around. Therefore, without a ray of suspicion, these people should be awarded capital punishment. If it is not done, they can organise crimes against the society again, even they are in captivation.

By contrast, those people who suggest alternate ways to arrest the rate of serious crimes feel that a death sentence ends the opportunity of a person. Admitting the fact that the culprits behind felonies should be isolated from the society, they suggest other feasible solutions such as a life-term sentence or secluding them in controlled facilities for a longer-term. Therefore, sparing the life of such criminals can be later productive to the society in some way. For example, manufacturing units and factories can be annexed to the detention centres, in which these people can be employed.

After analysing both the views in detail, I would go with the second option. This is because it can be beneficial to both the criminals and the society. However, I cannot say death penalty is completely a wrong idea.
