You should spend about 20 minutes on this topic.

Write a letter to a bookstore manager who is living in another city. Ask him/ her to make available a book that you are interested in. In your letter, you should say:

  • What book you are looking for?
  • Why you need this book?
  • How you plan to purchase the book?

Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing in regard to the purchase of a book which I need the most.

It is ‘The lost words’, a 130 page-poem collection, I am looking for. I enquired several bookshops in Dublin, and finally, one of the shop owners informed me that the book will be there in your shop in Belfast.

Written by Robert Macfarlane, the book is a very special illustrated collection of small poems to re-wild the language of children. As a school teacher, I am much interested in restoring the rich landscape of wild imagination, which is fading steadily from our children’s minds.

I was thinking of purchasing the book from your store in person. However, due to the ongoing busy schedule, I can hardly make it soon. Therefore, I would like you to send me the book via courier to the address which is attached with this letter. Once you confirm the purchase, I can make the payment online.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Cathy
