You are due to move into a rented apartment next month but you will not be able to because you have some problems.

Write a letter to the landlord. In your letter:

• explain your situation
• describe your problems
• tell him/her when you think you can move in

Dear Mr Philip,

 I am Felix, an engineer who signed a rental agreement with you. I am writing this letter to inform you a delay in moving to your apartment on the scheduled date.

As per the rental contract signed between us on 20^th of this month, I was supposed to move there on 11 January. I also had paid £1000, the amount equals to two months’ rent in advance. However, due to some unexpected difficulties I would not be able to move in as was agreed.

The first problem which is making the delay is that my project met with some issues and it takes at least 15 days further to resolve and submit. Till then I have to stay in Lisbon with my colleagues. The second issue is that my wife and children, who were supposed to join me on 10^th of next month has postponed their journey because my second child fell and broke his leg.

If circumstances are settled, we would be moving into your apartment on the 1^st of February. It would be appreciated if you could consider giving me some discount in the first month’s rent. We also express for the inconvenience caused.
