  • details about the book
  • how it was damaged
  • what you want to do about it

You should write at least 150 words.

MODEL ANSWER:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my regret and apology for the damage which happened to the book which I have borrowed from the public library.

I have been a member of the library for the past two years and my membership number is PLI 8945. Last week, I borrowed the first volume of ‘The secrets of life after death’, by Steven Poland.

The book was really interesting, and I spent almost 4 hours a day reading it. Owing to the keen interest in reading the book completely within a week, I took the book to Huston, where my farmhouse is located. The next day, the book fell into a stream of water accidently and I could find half of the pages soaked. I tried my level best to dry it up, but eventually, I found many of the pages unreadable.

I would choose the option of paying the compensation rather than replacing it. I am expected to return by this Sunday, and the very next day, I would complete the necessary proceedings.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Edward
