You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You have been offered a job, asking you to start next week. You want the job very much but, because of a previous commitment, you want to delay the start for another two weeks.

Write to the Manager, accepting the job, but explaining your situation and asking for the change to your start date.

You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Manager,

I am writing this letter to seek apology for the delay which I am expected to make in the date of taking up the job which you offered me.

First of all, I really want to express my sincere gratitude to you for offering me the post of the marketing manager at your reputed firm. It is my privilege to work in a reputed firm like yours, and I believe this will be a landmark in my career-life.

However, I would like to intimate you that I have some pending work commitments with my previous employer. I have been the team leader for the company’s latest marketing initiative: ‘The discount challenge’, and I think, it would take another week to complete the task.

It would be highly appreciated if you could extend my joining date by at least a couple of weeks, so that I can commence the new job fresh and energetic.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Simon
