You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You have just read an article in a national newspaper which claims that town centres in your country all look very similar to each other. You don’t fully agree with this opinion. Write a letter to the editor of the newspaper. In your letter

Ÿ say which points in the article you agree with

Ÿ explain ways in which your town centre is different from most other town centres

Ÿ offer to give a guided tour of your town to the writer of the article

Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir/Madam,

The purpose of this letter is to bring your attention towards some misinformation which I recently read in your newspaper about the town centres in my country.

On 23rd April, I read an article ‘The Architectural Similarities of Towns in England’ on your newspaper. I would agree that there are some similarities in the town planning and construction. However, I cannot completely agree with the information published.

First of all, I would say about Kent, which has three unique vernacular architecture forms: the Oast House, the Wealden Hall House and the Kentish peg-tiles, which you have not mentioned. Against your publication, Sussex’s construction is moderate and conservative.

I would suggest your reporter to have a guided tour to both these places and collect the maximum factual information. My friend operates such a system to international tourists, and if you are interested, I would arrange a free package for you.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

David Boyle
